Moving House Checklist

A Moving House Checklist is a great way to keep you organised before moving house

Take a look at the handy checklist below. When you’re ready to organise your utility connections, you can do it all with On The Move. It’s all about making moving house easier.

4 weeks before moving house

Start collecting boxes and any packing materials you may need.

Notify your Real Estate Agent/landlord of your vacation date and arrange to settle any outstanding debts.

Organise a quote for a removalist or other means of transport for your move.

Organise a cleaner and gardener (before your final move out date and inspection).

Start packing and clearing out all your belongs that you don’t use often and donate or sell items you no longer need - i.e.: Garage Sale or eBay.

Begin packing those items not often used, such as books and non-seasonal clothes or anything stored in your shed that you wont need. Clearly label all boxes with their full contents and with the names of the rooms they are from for easy unpacking!

3 weeks before moving house

Organise any travel bookings/arrangements e.g. plan your route for any travel stops and accommodation if required, especially if you are moving interstate.

Put all important paper work in a box that you can access at any time up until your final day!

Arrange address notifications and mail redirections for the following items:

 

Bank Medicare Shopping Programs (Myer, Priceline, Flybuyers) Car Rego/Drivers Licence

Superannuation Memberships Charities Insurance

and anything else you can think of!

Notify your new shire council for re-registering any pets if applicable.

2 weeks before moving house

1 week before moving house

Make plans for children and pets prior to, during and after the move such as; entertainment, medication, food and care!

Arrange for a property inspection so that you may recoup any bond owing to you.

Take any rubbish to the local tip or arrange a skip. Drop off any donated goods to your local charity store and arrange a charity truck (ie: St Vincent De Paul) to collect any furniture you want to donate.

Ensure you have fitted any light globes that may need replacing.

Pack a day bag or box for all the important things you need for your actual moving day - i.e, Snacks, coffee, sugar, milk, drinks, kettle, mugs and anything else you think you may need on the day.

Moving day

Don't lose your list!

Do one final clean of the premise and ensure you have taken everything from the cupboards and rooms.

Take any medications and important paperwork and your box of goodies with you so you can access them anytime.

Turn off your main power switch.

Gather all your keys including the spare ones and hand them over to the real estate agent or new owner/tenant.
